One thing that is often overlooked when trying to lose weight is eating for your specific body type. There are three kinds of body types. Ectomorph, Endomorph, and Mesomorph. To briefly summarize each of these, Ectomorphs are people who tend to have narrow shoulders and hips and an overall thin body. While Mesomorphs are between endo and ecto as they are more muscular. Endomorphs, like myself, are typically more round and carry a lot of weight towards the lower half of the body.
And because it’s just our luck, Endomorph store more fat as it’s harder for people like us to lose weight, but it’s very possible. Nutrition is important for all three body types, but for an endomorph it’s even more crucial. Here are a few weight loss tips to help you out.
Endomorph needs to Decrease Carbs
I had to start out with this one first because I know it’s the hardest. If you’re an endomorph I don’t even need to know you personally to know that you love carbs. It’s a given with us, but when you decrease carbs you’ll see the benefits as I have. Endomorph are more carb sensitive then the other body types.
Carbs are used for energy and are needed to keep our bodies going, but too much of it gets stored as fat. Since we have slower metabolism than the other two body types, we are more likely to have a lot of it stored.
Eating low carbs allows us to increase our protein which is imperative in any diet. So decreasing carbs is a great way to get started. I lost 5 pounds in my very first month making the switch, and I’ve continued to lose weight. 20-25 percent of your total calorie intake should come from carbs. If you’re too nervous going that low, 30 is also fine.
Eat more frequently
Eating more throughout the day is something I was always against. Never made sense to me as I used to eat 2-3 times a day. But the meals were bigger and even though I would go 4-5 hours without eating, I’d still feel bloated. I switched to eating snacks and noticed that my stomach didn’t bloat as much.
Eating more throughout the day keeps your metabolism going and more importantly, you won’t keep thinking about food. If you incorporate snacks like low carb protein bars, nuts, fruit and veggies in between your three meals, you will be fine.
Drinking green tea will also help keep you full, which leads to my next point.
Drink Green Tea
Tea in general is great, but green tea has a lot of weight loss benefits as well. Green tea boosts your metabolism and is filled with antioxidants. Also, tea has such a calming effect on the body which will keep you from stressing out about your weight. By drinking green tea you can replace some of the sugary drinks you’re accustomed to having. Don’t put too much sugar in your tea though because, you know, carbs.
Drink less soda
Replacing soda with water will have a lot more benefits than just weight loss. Your teeth will thank you. Your hair will thank you. Your immune system will thank you. In just a 12 fl oz of Coca-Cola, there are 39 grams of carbs and 39 grams of sugar. In just the can. I won’t even tell you how much a bottle has.
Soda has no nutritional value whatsoever and is empty calories that could’ve been spent elsewhere. Now you don’t have to eliminate soda completely, but it would be best to drink it rarely. Especially if you’re just starting out. After you decrease your soda intake, you won’t even miss it.
Seems like a no brainer, but working out as an endomorph is a must. Weight lifting and cardio are crucial as the combination together does wonders. But if you’re are busy or don’t want to spend too much time working out then I’d suggest HIIT cardio.
HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) cardio is a brief, but high intensity workout. It’s a short period of time, but with minimal rest in between. There are different apps and workouts online (I may make another article describing this in full length) that are great for beginners as they have moderations that will make it easier. Warning: if you do HIIT be prepared to sweat like you’ve never sweat before.
The reason why I advocate for HIIT so much is because that workout is usually 10-15 minutes long and will have your heart racing more than any other 45 minute workout would. HIIT is also good because your body continues to burn calories after you’re done and who doesn’t like that?
Those are just some of the tips to lose weight more efficiently as an endomorph. I’d put more of a stress on the carbs because of how important it is. Once you decrease your carbs, you’ll realize how much calories you have left. Tracking calories is also important and you can use apps like MyFitness Pal to do so. Good luck to everyone on their journey and hopefully we all reach our goals.
